British Pies were originally called ‘Pyes’ in medieval England. These pies were filled with mutton, wild duck, magpie and pigeon, which were then flavoured with currants, pepper and dates. The King was a huge fan and at Hampton Court they had the largest oven in the pastry house which was 12ft wide.
Located just off Oxford Street, Hunter 486 offers a fine setting in which to celebrate British Pie Week. Named after the 1950s dialing code for the Marylebone area, the decor boasts a suave air of English heritage combined with the ultimate in contemporary style.
The restaurant features gleaming leather booths, blown glass chandeliers and statement artwork, plus an adjoining chic Salon de Champagne bar. The kitchen is delightfully open plan and airy, allowing guests to watch the skilled chefs at work amongst the gleaming selection of copper pots and pans suspended from the ceiling. Light streams through the large windows, treating guests to a charming view of the neighborhood mews, and come the evening, the softly lit restaurant is an intimate and romantic setting for dinner and drinks.
